Race Plane
Baker Racer
Ian Baker, Director of Advanced Aero Components, has designed and built a modified Glasair Super 3 which was registered as the 'Baker Racer'.
The aircraft was Ian's vision for an Australian built aircraft to compete in the Reno Air Races and go up against the world's best and hold it's own.
Ian has worked very closely over the years with many high performance aircraft and has had the talent to help many race planes achieve much better performance by applying his expertise and modifications. He has a natural eye for clean lines that generate smooth airflow and resultantly very slippery aircrafts. His talent has been sought after by manufacturers and race teams around the world.
In 2004 Ian set his mind and sole focus into converting his Glasair Super 3 into what he saw in his dreams as the ultimate racing machine. Pencil on paper had given meat to the dream and after consulting a couple of trusted aeronautical engineers to confirm his ideas he embarked on what became a 4 year journey that still continues to date.
In Bankstown Airport, Sydney Ian stretched his Glasair by some 8 inches, changed the wing shape and leading edges, applied new wing tip designs, reshaped and enlarged the rudder, smoothed the windscreen lines, tightened up the nose cowl and inlets, lengthened the spinner, embedded a twin turbo 6 cylinder Lycoming engine with electronic waste gates, race pistons and gear all boosted to achieve 600hp at 2700rpm with 70inches of manifold pressure. The dream was being realized!
All this whilst securing sponsorship and developing a race team ready for Reno.
